Welcome
It is a great pleasure for us to welcome you to the 27th SMYTE (Small Meeting on Yeast Transport and Energetics), which will be held in Blankenberge, Belgium.
The meeting is organized by the Laboratory of Molecular Cell Biology, KULeuven and Department of Molecular Microbiology, VIB, Belgium.
Blankenberge is located at the Belgian coast and the conference center, Duinse Polders is situated just behind the stretch of dunes lining the vast and broad sand beach, which stretches all along from the French border in the south to the Dutch border in the north.
The SMYTE meetings have a long tradition, dating back to 1983 (see list of previous SMYTE meetings). They focus on different aspects of membrane transport, environmental signaling, energy metabolism and related topics of cellular regulation in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisae and in nonconventional yeasts. They cover both fundamental aspects as well as applied research in yeast biotechnology.
The SMYTE meetings are known for their convivial atmosphere, with accomodation and scientific programme usually organised in a single venue, which stimulates informal interactions and discussions. They are organized at an attractive price to stimulate participation by young researchers from all over the world.
The sessions in the 27th SMYTE meeting will broadly cover the following topics:
- Structure, function, trafficking and regulation of transporters
- Environmental sensing and signaling
- Metabolic and energy regulation
- Stress responses and transport
- Transport and energetics in relation to yeast fermentation processes
- Transport and energetics in nonconventional yeasts
- Transport and yeast development and cellular interactions
- Transport and pathogenicity in nonconventional yeasts
- Yeast as model and tool for transport in other organisms
- Transporters in biotechnological applications
